President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) of Indonesia has reaffirmed his claim that social assistance for internet gamblers will not be provided.

Indonesian news outlets paraphrased the president as saying, "No aid," reiterating his previous declaration.

Muhadjir Effendy, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), has provided more clarification on the statement.

Please take note of all I just said. Since online gamblers are seen as criminals, we do think they should be subject to the law. Here, social assistance refers to support provided for their spouse, children, or both.

The Minister responded to a discussion on social media on the PMK Coordinating Ministry's social assistance.

Effendy went on to say that the Task Force for Eradicating Online Gambling was formed in tandem with his suggestion to provide assistance to family members harmed by online gamblers.

The intention was to lessen the financial and psychological strain on family members who suffered negative consequences but did not participate in unlawful gaming.

The country of Indonesia outright forbids gambling of any kind. They have also been connected to money laundering offences in the wake of the current crackdown on illicit gaming.
